    Folding shooting stand

Hi all, I do not post much and after seeing the high quality of all the projects on here i have been hesitant to post mine. I was asked by a friend if I could take some old scrap he had and make him a folding target stand. Please see the attached pics and offer any advice on my welds or any ideas to improve on the stand Sorry for the poor quality just bought a new camera
    Thanks

Here are a few more. I am still not satisfied with it so I am trying to make some mods. If anyone has an idea please let me know. These show the attachment at the base to uprights and the lower cross bar. Thanks for looking

    Odleo,
Can't really see the welds but it looks like a good idea. NEVER hesitate to post your projects, we like them all. I've never seen real criticism here, constructive yes but no malicious criticism. That does no good and won't be tolerated. Glad you are a member and happy you decided to contribute.

Thanks Gadget, I will try to get some better pics of my welds. Now can you please tell me how to set up my pics in the gallery. I have entered the contest and I have to put them in a gallery

I can't see the welds real well, but on the subject of shooting, my friend and I used to buy balloons and tie them on fairly long strings to the shooting stand. As the wind blows them around they simulate a moving target and can be challenging to hit. If you get good with those, you can have more fun/frustration by pulling the balloons(way) behind an R/C car.

Ascinder sounds like it would be fun to try and hit a moving balloon. I would worry that the RC might get hit.
Worked with some guys that used to take three balloons. 1 small and two medium. The small one was sandwiched between the mediums and then placed in a small window frame. Looked like fun till I realized they were both taking aim to shoot at the same time. Later found out that they were on the tac team as counter snipers.

Lol, nice. Yeah we always used an extra long string with the car. With the car you can also use an old plastic grocery bag as a "drag chute" which is tied to the string past the balloon. This pulls the balloon up into the air and stabilizes it somewhat. Shooting at the ground gets old fast This is my toy:

Built it myself about three years ago. FNFAL on a DSA receiver. You can't see it in the pic, but it's a Para version. I took off the folding stock because the cheekweld was atrocious. You had to literally lay your head sideways to be able to look through the rear iron sight. The SAW stock is far more comfy and the flip out shoulder rest allows you to pivot the rifle with your upper torso while prone.

odleo, I like the idea for the target holder. I can't see the welds that good.

Shooting, we used to shoot 22s in my uncle's basement, which is about 75 ft long. The target was a walnut on a string. My sister made everyone else look bad, she could hit it about 3 out of 4 tries, some tines destroying the walnut.

Ascinder, That rifle looks like it would be fun to shoot. I do not have anything that nice. I built a patrol rifle for use when I was a cop in Texas. Wish I had put a flashlight on it back them. I had a gunsmith do some work on the bolt so that it will cycle faster. I was going to have a tri burst put in it but I did not want to have all the ATF hassle (Paperwork) so I left it semi auto

KHK, thanks I have not had time to get any better pics. I started this project before I had any type of welding instruction. Now that I have had some classes with Stan (SIC Fabrications) I am planning to re do the target stand. This stand was built for a friend because the place we go shoot never had enough stand to go around for everyone to use.
Had a guy over to do some work on my tractor and he asked if I could one for he. He is into fast draw comps and they had to provide their on stands. I told him to get the metal and I would build it. He called today and wants to give him price, unfortunately for me I have no idea what to charge.
