OK, I'll pull out the supporting info I had found, and post it.... Lol ...in a new thread!
...and I did read something about a chinees outfit manufacturing the perkins engine under license, now.
...I've worked on many, many tons of engines over the years... can't recall any of them that had the maker's name in the castings... not even HD !

The serial numbers on HD's start with 1HD

...Bbutt I wasn't around for the first one, and haven't seen it, either !
My knuckle had ZERO numbers on the cases, and the others had a number with FL, FLH, WR, WRA, and XRCH following a number.
Only got a amf cone now, but I'll go out and see if there's even an HD on it... there's not, that I can recall...Lol which ain't sayin much!

Charley, I just ran across this stuff on small diesels, and remembered you had mentioned looking for one, a while back.

That's probably why he sold you that motor... my crystal ball tells me it shall be like a thundering herd of turtles !

Damned if I didn't spend a minute trying to picture that.... 2k+ snapping turtles at low speed down a freeway... All I could see was free soup.

Don't be afraid to try a pair of transmissions to manipulate gearing to your benefit. The rock crawler guys are making nationally competitive buggies with a stock honda motor, and 2 trannys. (Not the kind you're embarrassed to tell your friends about.) Honestly, with a Diesel, that might be the big winner. Gear that sucker down like they did with the concept Opel Speedster that got 100mpg at 70mph.

Weight always seems scary when trying for mileage, but it means next nothing when you're not accelerating. (Otherwise, how could my 3400+lb Toyota get 30+ on the highway?)
