    Brake job turns into needing complete rear end

    Went to do rear brakes and ran into major issues, now need whole rear end.

    Couldn't get the passenger side rear brake drum off so I checked where the leak was and tightened the brake line and it stopped, checked fluid in m/c bone dry filled it pumped pedal but no brakes, m/c empty again, the drivers side wheel cylinder blew, started, took off wheel and drum was split in half from the brake shoe wearing it too thin.

    now the real issue, can't get the drums off and they are a weird set up, not sure if it's the right rear end or not, one guy says yes another says no.

    Ever see a setup like this? The differential number is 741 last 3 #s

    64 Dodge D100, Not real sure as to what the specs are on the rear end. Gotta try & find another rear end that will work tomorrow cause even if I could find replacement drums the old ones won't come off. I need something with a better suited highway gear as this thing screams at 55 mph with the 3 on the tree.

    Mopar 8 3/4 rear, likely the factory rearend for the truck. I'm unsure of the specs on length for the truck but since you have it there you can measure the flange-to-flange and get the width. Can you heat whats left of the drum to get it off? Since you are going to change gears anyway, pull the axle and take it to a shop, then have the gears changed at the same time. Shouldn't be too expensive at all, especially if you can do it...

    Neither drum will come off, it's a big issue with that particular rear end setup. So I'm gonna swap it out for a little newer style rear end. Yes it's 8 3/4 the perch mounts are 43 1/2" center to center & 55 1/2 between backing plates.

    could always pick up a 14 bolt out of a chevy you would have to move the spring pads and run a conversion u joint and its 8 lug but u can get em for 100$ all day long at the u pullits and they are bullet proof they came stock with 3.73 and 4.11 and 4.56 gears and 1 ton brakes

    I found one that meets all the measurement criteria @ the U Pull it for $70.00 exchange but it's off a 86 Ram not sure the yoke is the same, anybody have any idea if it will work or not?
