    Add Spool Gun to LS-200PI?

Will this Hobart spool gun work with the LS200PI welder? It's listed for use with the Hobart 210 amp wire feed MIG welder. If it will work is a spool gun controller needed? I'm thinking it has standard torch connections for DC & gas and draws its power for the spool from the welding DC current. Thanks in advance. Rob

    HI Rob,

The spool gun is made for Miller by a Chinese manufacturer that also makes our spool guns. We are working with them to enable this feature of having a spool gun on future cutters/welders and it is possible.

We have yet to incorporate a plug for it.

So Longevity does sell spool guns but they will not work with the current LS200PI? It would be a cool addition so one machine could do TIG, Stick and MIG wire feed welding + plasma cutting.

Even if it works you will probably have to have a different gas. I don't think you use straight argon for MIG.

It depends on what your welding if it's aluminum which is what you normally use the spool gun for then yes argon is the gas to use. Other then that not so much.

would you be able to just add the gun? I thought Mig needs a cca source and tig/plasma/stick a ccv power source?

Could you ust add a spool gun? Ithough MIG required a CCA power source and TIG/stick/plasma needed a CCV power source?

    H'mmmm
I'm thinking the 200PI is constant Current Only
    For
Plasma Cutting, TIG, Stick all processes are Constant Current CC: You set the current/Amperage

MIG is Constant Voltage CV: You set a voltage ~ 15 to 32 volts and adjust the wire feed speed.

I'm new to welding so I didn't know the difference between CC and CV. I knew MIG uses CO2 or Argon/CO2 mix but I figured pure Argon probably would still work ok.

    Oh well, never mind.

Mig voltages are not limited to 15-32 volts I have used 10 volts and up to 50 something volts before. I have used pure argon for steel it's ok but co2 gives a much more constant more forcefully arc. They use alot more then just argon and co2. They use helium nitrogen in some cases and mixtures of these and more.
