I use propane for heating cutting and brazing. The little tanks for BBQ grills last quite a while. I use acetylene only for welding now.

i have used propane, and it cuts with alot of dross...... propylene is a completely different animal... not governed by the 1/10 rule of drawing, nor governed by the rule of having to store the bottle upright... propylene doesnt have to "generate", its a liquefied fuel

I guess it's not propane it's LPG for the BBQs liquid petroleum gas. I can cut clean with it.

I also am using map. When I was divorced, I left the acetylene torch set. They are gone now, and I have been using a small set that is almost a joke, but does work. Since the torch is so small, I think that only map will give me the heat I want.

Have ForceCut80I, Precision TIG 185, Ideal Arc 250, Oxy-Acetylene, Tig welding Chamber, 14 Ton pipe bender, 20 Ton press, Electric sheet metal shear, 12 inch- 0.125 Shear, 12 inch Metal Band Saw, Power Hack Saw, Abrasive Chop Saws, 2 Mills, 5 Lathes, and lots of other items
I first used MAPP gas in '82 when working for Custom Tube doing fabricated assemblies for IH trucks.
Since then, I've almost always had a tank of propane as back-up for the acetylene but never really saw a need to change to MAPP unless my employer was using it.
It worked well when I was having to braze 50 parts/hour!

How does it compare price wise?I used propane about 20 years ago and was amazing at how far the tank would last, almost like fill the tank every five years, and oxygen when you need to, but was a little to long to heat up.Have heard of acetylene being cycled out in some areas and LWS.I have seen gasolene/oxgen and for some reason that seemed a little dangerous because the container wasn't big heavy and intimadating.

??? Tell me more........ I've already piped LNG to the garage for the radiant heat so tapping off for another line over to the other side of the garage would be easy............ For all my CU plumbing stuff I'll only use mapp, gave away all the propane I had 'cause it's just too slow for that stuff.
