I am trying to run wire from my main power box to a sub box in my garage. The distance of wire including extra for hooking it up is 100ft.All the wire gauge calculators say #6 wire, but a welding company I use and some others I have talked to say #2 to be sure its big enough to carry the amperage 100ft.Would #6 be good enough,or should I use thicker? This stuff costs a bundle the bigger the wire gets, and I know they are trying to make as much money as they can off of the wire and I don't blame them, but I am retired and live on a fixed income,at least till I get my welder hooked up.Any suggestions from the pro's that know if #6 is plenty big enough. Thanks guys.
Oh,I forgot to add it's for running 100 amps to the sub box.
