    Hinges?

Twice now I've used a 5" barrel hinge to make a gate. And while they turned out okay I'm wondering if there's a set methodology that would make things easier. Like getting things to line up so the swing doesn't bind.............

Pull the pins on the hinges and replace them with a long rod that fits same as the hinge pin but long enough to go through both hinges after you have them spaced, space them like you want them then weld in place

Rusty, do tell? I was just using some beefy barrel hinges I got from the steel supply shop......... And since they're barrel hinges I can't do the full length rod trick, but I'll keep it in mind if I do one like that at some point.

Had a thought.... to help line up the barrel hinges. Howabout taking a piece of angle and either clamping it or tacking it in place while the bases get tacked in place?
