Auto darkening fail

Hi all. I've been using the Longevity auto darkening helmet that came with my welder for most everything this last year or so. It has performed very well for me until lately. Having used a Jackson standard hood prior to this hood I have a question for you guys with auto darkening lids. The last couple times I've been wearing this thing (some gas welding, some tig), it has been flashing me at the arc start -every time. I clearly cannot weld with it anyomore. Does this happen when the battery gets low or would it not be slow going dark but rather not go dark at all? It has really only just started happening so I'm wondering if it could be the battery or just the lens. Thanks for any responses, I miss the auto.

I would suspect the battery. Most of them are self charging I think. Put it in the sun for awhile. My understanding is the UV is filtered whether it goes dark or not it shouldn't damage your eyes. It may take you awhile to focus again though.

this is one of the main reasons i dont use a auto dark lid i have lost 10 % vision in my left eye and have 3 scars on my eye from auto dark lids even my work eye doctor says fixed shade is the way to go .. my vision is what makes me money

Sounds like a battery problem to me.

Thanks guys. I'll try the battery swap and see. If it doesn't help I'll go fixed shade or with the chin operated ones. I saw one of those for the first time Thursday and I'm pretty impressed with them. Best of both worlds perhaps?

Hey I took it apart this morning and couldn't find a battery. I checked it out on this site this morning and it reads no battery too. Am I mistaken? Is this helmet dead then or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try storing where their is ample light for a few days, if you still have trouble well check out the warranty I quess, or buy a new one.

I'll do that thanks. It's weird that the helmet has been stored in a dark garage when not in use for the last year and I'm just now having this problem.

I'll buy a new one if I have to but it will be a high end one to avoid this problem a year from now. It would be great if there was a simple fix for this one though because it gets the job done. Thanks for the suggestions.
