    Can I weld this

I am making sculptures and am very new to welding and was wonering if I can weld coat hangars or will they just melt? I want to make some small stuff with bent hangar wire but I'm not sure if I can.

You can if you are careful. You will need very small filler rod or just fuse them. You will have to remove the coating on the hangers where you are going to weld though.

Yes metal coat hangers are weldable, wooden ones require Glue, or a wood welder!
All kidding aside, you will have the best results using the TIG process. In a pinch metal coat hangers make good filler rod. Anything you weld must be cleaned to the base metal.

I used to use coat hangers as filler rod with gas welding all the time. Thinking back on it I bet smelling all that burning coating they used on them was not too healthy.

Naw that is from holding the wrong end of the stick welder while standing in water too many times.
