    Foot Control on 200PI

Hi Victor: I have a 200PI which is working great, had a 200P prior to this machine and really like the PI better overall. Just a general question you might work on a bit and shed some light. When I TIG without the foot pedal I can adjust amperage pretty well, digital readout covers the full range. I can pretty well judge what amperage I'm starting at.

With the foot pedal it's a bit more difficult. I prefer the pedal for start up;down and the ability to vary amperage while welding. But one difficulty seems to be the pot on the foot pedal creates some strange variances. The machine amps in set to zero; If I put the pedal box pot to 10 I can't get any lower than maybe 30 amps as a start point and I'm not sure the increase in foot pedal pressure gives a linear increase. Maybe you can test. It seems to go to high amp pretty fast. Sort of hard to watch digital and weld so this is from welding impression.

If I set the foot pedalbox pot to zero, the pedal won't provide enough amperage for any weld. At foot pedal box pot at 5, still very low start and maybe max amperage 25. It seems the function range of the foot pedal box pot is maybe 6 to 9.

Are the pedals designed for this machine or is there a modification like a different pot that would essentially make the foot pedal range the same as the pot on the machine? I checked the pot on the foot pedal and it is operating full range. Maybe there's some guidance or technique Im missing here like if you do it right the foot pedal can fine tune amperage better than a single pot?

any help appreciated. You can move this over to the multifunction forum if you like and it's a better place for it.

    foot control for 200PI

FOOT CONTROL: The Foot Control overrides the Base Current knob. The Base Current knob does not function when the Foot Control is plugged into the machine. When the Foot Control is depressed, the welding current starts. Base Current will increase with pedal depression. In pulse mode, the Foot Control changes both the base (low) amps and pulse (high) amps, just as turning the Base Current knob would.
The Foot Control Knob can be used to reduce the maximum current allowed by the Foot Control. Placing the knob to the 5 position will limit the maximum amps to approximately 20 amps, the 6 position approximately 50 amps, 7 about 90 amps, 8 about 150, and the 9 position 200 amps. This allows the Foot Control to be less sensitive.

Please refer to post by member robrob to get a little more info. on this machine and its functions.

    Sincerely,

    Victor W.

very helpful, thanks for looking into the range for the foot control which confirms the amps at some of the settings. the machines seem to be all consistent so that's good.

    Welcome Victor!

Do you have similar amperage measurements for the foot pedal on the other machines?
