Just bought an LP-50D

Hello,

Just signed up for the forums and just got my unit today. I'm going to get it set up and prepare for cutting. I have used a torch and saws up to this point, but am excited to see how this will be.

Any further tips, etc anyone wants to provide (I realize there's tons of information in these forums. I have to wade thru it) I appreciate in advance.

Ok, so, I haven't had time to get down to the barn to fool with this thing until this afternoon. I had assembled it right after I got it and then had to get on to other things.

So, in a word - WOW!

I put an old lawnmower blade in the leg vise and went to cutting it. At first, it was kinda hit and miss, getting the feel of it. I found out that I needed to turn my auto-darkening helmet to its lightest setting. Anyway, after fooling with it a bit, I had a bunch of small irregular pieces of steel on the floor....

I do a bit of ornamental blacksmithing and I am getting ready to build some hinges, etc for some cabinetry that is made out of barn beams. The hinges are going to be strap style, bolt thru the door. (the doors are heavy, maybe 20 lbs ea.)

Anyway, I wanted to see how hard it was going to be to cut a rounded point on the end of some 2" wide flat steel. The first one was kinda rough - (it can go on the inside of the door, where no one will see.) But the 2nd one was great. A bit of grinding and some pounding and Voila...

I'll post a picture shortly. Man does this make cutting steel easy. I can't believe how good these cuts look with only about 10 minutes of playing with it. I'm concerned I may end up with many buckets of small pieces of steel since its so fun....

So, this is the first cut I made "free hand" after butchering my practice steel. Kinda grody...

This is the second cut that I am much happier with (especially since I'm about 10 minutes into my Plasma cutting career and doing this free hand...)
