    another noob

hello all from Vancouver. i've been lurking and just reading for a couple days and have found some really helpful and interesting info. Just thought i'd better say hi and start getting the post count up..lol

i'm a saw filer by trade... i work in a saw mill where i sharpen, straighten, and generally maintain the band saw blades in a quad setup

my welding is somewhat limited to repairing cracks (MIG) formed by excessive vibration in the machine - a situation we're trying to resolve by isolating the mill from the chip shaker that it is solid-mounted beside - and/or stresses of having the log turn or roll while it is in the middle of a cut.

the blade is only 8" x .073" and around 36' long so i'm not doing anything terribly challenging, but i am looking forward to discussing problems (like dealing with oil-saturated material) and picking up pointers and tips - and frankly, entering into some pretty sweet product give-a-ways.

i'll see if i can snap some pix of the blades in action and some of the cracks we're repairing to satisfy the photo-album requirement.

    later,
    bob

Welcome to the forum Bob. I like your moniker, I started laughing as soon as I saw it. That is one of my favorite movies.
I look forward to seeing your photos.

    arandall,

thanks, it has been a blast the last two weeks - hardly a "17-day party for the rich" as the nay-sayers and critics were calling it during the run-up. i went down last weekend and the only reason i managed to spend $100 all day was because most of it i spent in the Saskatchewan House paying $8 for a 8oz cup of Pilly.
there's been so much to do and see - and really the only thing that cost any money was the actual events, and they seem to almost be a formality to a huge party. tonnes of people that i know just went down to see and be part of the atmosphere.

a must-do for anyone that has never been and has the opportunity in the future.

    Welcome,
I have been to busy to do much welding recently. I got a Longevity 520D to do some TIG welding last spring. It has been a good machine. TIG welding takes a bit to learn but the amount of control you have is great.

Everyone on the forum here is really nice and usually have good advice.
