    Just ordered the LS 200P

My name is Steve, and I just ordred the LS 200P. Can't wait to try it out! I am a hobbyist, and do car restoration for fun, as well as a little modification for my Son's race car. I have done a little 18 guage stainless tig work, but have no experience with the plasma cutter. I also have an old stick welder that I am going to retire.

Re: Just ordered the LS 200P

    Welcome Steve,
I have the LS160P which is similar to yours but less power. Based on what I know of mine, you are going to love your machine. The plasma is just so great a way to cut metal you are going to be thinking overtime to come up with projects for it.
Post some pics when you start your projects.

Thanks Dan. I was really looking at the 160P, but decided to go with the 200P for the extra $$. I expect this unit to last me a long time!

Well, I received the new LS 200P. It was very well packaged and had no damage. Just need to wire it up and try it out. Can't wait!

Re: Just ordered the LS 200P

    Steve:

I have an LS200-P as well, and am really starting to like it. For a novice like me, there is a bit of a learning curve, but that's mostly because the machine is so versatile and adjustable. It certainly takes more skill than a MIG - at least in my experience, but well worth the effort.

One thing I would highly recommend though, before you start to use it, is to take off the cover and ensure that none of the connectors have shaken loose during shipment. I found some loose ones on mine. It's not hard to do, and you might as well avoid damaging the machine before you even turn it on. It's not a fault of the machine, but I expect these things do get bumped around a lot in shipping, and even though Longevity's customer service is great, you might as well avoid any unnecessary problems.

    Good luck, and enjoy.

Re: Just ordered the LS 200P

Regarding the loose connectors, just check all of them. On mine, I found a ground lug from one of the components to the case had fallen off. I found the screw for it in the bottom of the case. If I remember correctly, it was at the back of the machine, inside the cover, on the left-hand side when viewed from the front, but that was a while ago now, and my 60 year old memory isn't getting any better.
Anyway - it was pretty obvious, and easy to fix. It looks to me like the ground lugs are green with a yellow tracer (stripe), if that's any help to you.

Good luck - you'll love the machine when you get used to it.

Re: Just ordered the LS 200P

Buy the way Steve - what cars are you restoring? Presently I am working on my old '47 Chev Businessman's coupe. It's a street rod - not a restoration (sorry), so I have sub-framed it, etc.. When I got it, there were enough parts missing that I didn't feel bad about taking a torch to it. If everything had been there, I would have left it for a restorer.

Regarding the race car - in another life-time I used to race myself - circle track in the old claimer class. - - I miss it like the wind!!
