Hi Clay! and welcome to the forum. I started when I was about the same age. My first project was welding the rear end leaf spring supports on a 1956 Chevy Nomad. I did practice first on some scrap metal, wow that was a long time ago. Welding for me is a hobby, it's a lot of fun.
Do not be afraid to ask questions, I still do and am about 3 times your age.
We always like picks and movies of projects.

Welcome Clay
That's about the same time I learned how to weld but all there was then was just a stick welder and an oxy torch. I haven't used it as an occupation but it sure does make life much better to have acquired those skills. I wish you much success in whatever you attempt. Keep up the good work and whatever your desires in life are.... GO FOR IT
