    I normally use a paint marker to layout most of my measurements when cutting large diameter pipe or thicker material. Red for galvanized, yellow for steel. I use sharpies on most light material.

    Silver streak pencils for me. Get a neat and clean line. Only problem I have with them is when you try to mark on steel you have "cleaned" with a grinder or flap disc you can't see the mark. Works really well if there is a light rust on the steel or if the steel is new.
