Oh definitely! But these new units weren't around when I bought the Hobart/Lincolns. The last one I got (the HD 3200) was many years ago. TIG capability was still in the realm of dreams for many of us. The closest was the HF unit that came out a few years later at $999 for a DC only. Since I wanted to do aluminum, it wasn't even considered. I bought into the promise that I could Al window frames with a 110v Weld-pak unit just by adding argon, a new liner and some wire. I owned an apartment building at the time and the tenants (greek for Destructive Heathen People) were always busting them up just before inspection day and the window shop needed a week lead time to repair my frames.

Sadly, trying to do aluminum on 18v was just a hideous experiment in futility. But the machines were OK to use on steel in Detroit were many homes I did portable work at have only 110v 40a service. A gas powered unit was way out of my budget.

So, my 'Lil Red Box will compliment a new TiG unit nicely when I win one!

The wire tension is also a bit high if it keeps birdnesting so keep that in mind. That little bit of Rust on the wire makes such a big deal. The tips are actuly
very precise. If your running aluminum wire in any machine you have to make sure to use a contact tip one size larger the the wire you are welding with. This is to acount for the high amount of thermal expansion of aluminum. Otherwise it will just bind up. You should repalce the tip when ever it gets worn looking they are cheap enough so it's not a big deal to change it often.
