I am grooving to this Tig thang..

I had to do a balcony railing in the hotel atrium that's surrounded by carpeting and dry mulch and all sorts of flammable goodies. I would have had to rig flame and spark curtains all over to use my trusty Mig

So, working in some practice time, I used the new Tig unit and it was sweet. No sparks, no guests running and screaming with hair in flames and no loud crackling noises echoing throughout the place. Not a spark or drop of metal went anywhere but where I wanted.

It even saved me some hassle when I tacked up and the rail was out of line. Rather than grind off a weld like I would have done if I used the Mig, I just used the tig torch to heat the bead and nudge the rail true with clamps and a straight piece of square tubing.

Yeah, my stick welding still sucks and the tig pedal is getting FedEx'd to Zimbabwe if we can't get along but I am sure digging the LS-200PI for Tig and Plasma. My stock of bed rails don't stand a chance.

Glad you're having fun! It's amazing how nice the welds can be with no final grinding and cleaning up. Not sure if you tried aluminum yet but that to me is really fun since it's something you just can't do any other way. I like the 200PI as well, sure seems to have plenty of capacity for what I do and to have the plasma handy if needed is great on a job as well.

Yes TIG is a blast... I have found that when switching from stick to TIG I always have my head to far away when I start TIGing. Can't see can't weld.

Someday I will join in the fun. TIG seems so precise and smooth - very refined.

That's just the word I was looking for!

Now I am mentally picturing one of those Assent of Man evolution pics and tying it in with welding.

Discovery of Fire: On the left side of the scale we have a chimp using acetylene and setting his buddies ablaze.

Barbaric: A bit further up we have your basic troglodyte in animal hides wearing a crude conch shell helmet two-fisting a stick welder randomly against any metal nearby while Mrs. Troglodyte smacks her hand over her eyes and wanders off in shame.

    Civilized:
Next there is an erect biped in homespun clothing using a Mig around the farm mending a tractor or something.

    Refined:
And near the far right there is a fellow in a tuxedo looking like James Bond with a Tig in one hand and a martini in the other chatting with Mrs. Bond (wearing a nice off the shoulder evening dress and a Gucci handbag) at a dinner party. He's just doing a quick touch up on a Space Shuttle engine mount before the entree arrives.

    HAHAHA *ducking and running*
