s45 plasma torch retaining cap

On my weldall 200PI the s45 plasma torch retaining cap coating is coming off because of blowback from cutting bolt heads off, does this coating serve a purpose, does anyone know? Can I just take it to a wire wheel and scrub it off, before getting a new one to replace it.

My feeling is the coating is more for aesthetics than function but I'm not an expert on this. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on the subject will respond.

Hello tigqk,

If you are referring to the black shield cup on the head of the torch then you might want to keep it at least an 1/8" away from the metal, the torch wheel guide spacer is designed to help you keep this distance from the cutting material, if this continue's then please be sure to let me know.

Ya it kinda just looks like powder coat, it has worked so well for firing off small rusted bolts and extending what I use it on, I don't use a torch anymore because of the preheat time.I have a spare so I guess I could brush it off and see what happens.
