i am only having the classes every other saturday... this weekend will be the next class... and as always, i make em start out with the basics..... machine familiarity, set-up, procedure, codes, and consumables.... shop safety and a few other topics, then it was on to rod burnin.... spent 8 hours explaining current and stick rods, and how to use them... bead placement.... this weekend is going to be lay out, mig, and FCAW processes....
i had 6 people show up, so i still have 2 more spots...just sayin *shrugs* lol

After reading this thread I feel ecstatic about my students. I would be willing to put my 10th graders up against any of the students those schools you mentioned in the original post are cranking out. I have 9th graders that know how to set up AND the do's and don'ts of oxy-actetylene.
My ag students can set up the machine and those that are still unsure will always ask me... BUT, they always ask, "This is what I'm trying to weld and I think I have the machine set where it needs to be, can you please check it for me?"
