Have to go into my LWS today and payup my rental fees on 4 tanks, they do repairs I will ask about the econotig if I don't forget.Don't believe this welder has HF but capacitive discharge arc, a solid state circuit.

Looks like I better get to posting so I can win the contest.......... cause the econotig board is confirmed dead. It's does not have HF and is a solid state arc start. Looks like I can get a replacement board from Miller for $513 That's more than I paid for the unit?!?

Fortunately I'm going to win the Longevity TIG..... oh wait... I guess I shouldn't count on that.....

Fortunately I can get a rebuild by sending my board to Yorkelectronics for about $180 OR to Innovatcorp for $194. Both have a week or two turnaround at the moment and that price doesn't include shipping of course.

Sigh. Of course right now I'm not working and can't really justify the repair...........

Just a note for myself.... miller part # 165872

That kind of re-inforces for me the feeling that for any welding related purchases in future, I will be looking at Longevity first. - - great warranty and good customer service.
I own both Miller, and Longevity products.

Well if I were to buy new, longevity definitely has a lead. But this Miller econotig has had who knows how many owners and I only got it 'cause my buddy got a deal on an upgrade and passed it to me for a measly $500..... he had offers of $700 and still decided to pass it to me. It has a production date of Dec-8-1994 so I think it's not unreasonable that something would fail at this point though I wish it hadn't. I've had it for the last five years or so....

On the upside, if I absolutely need to TIG I've been told I can scratch start the arc off of copper and it won't contaminate the tungsten....... yes?
