    Miller Econotig

Seem the HF on my econotig isn't working too well..... damn near need to scratch start it.

    I think I found the manual here .... http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o303v_mil.pdf

I'm not particularly familiar with the innards of these things but in looking at the parts list I don't see any contacts which is what I was hoping for.....

    Any suggestions?

You have to pop the cover off your machine and you have to look at two contacts that look like the contact points. On the Longevity machines they are on the bottom.Shut the power off and let and caps bleed down if they are in close proximity to the fix.The gap should be from .025 to.040 in gap which is a huge range check the gap with a pir of flat feeler gauges to see the spread, if they are wide apart close the gap and check the hf start and adjust down to where the hf start stops working and move apart abit from their.Check for burn marks or spots on the points or missing points, corrosion or follow the wires back and look for possible contact points on the chassis from thin insulation. You schematics are real good just never had a chance to look for a relay which is another possibility for problems will try this evening to look over schematics.

Like tig said you most likely need to adjust the HF spark gap

if you take a picture of the innards i can point to where they are for you on the pc1 board

That's what I figured.... I haven't taken the time to pull the cover yet as the garage is a pathetic mess. I was just glancing through the parts list and didn't notice anything that looked like points and was concerned that this model didn't have them.... not that I'd know. I'll try and take a look at it soon. I'm not near skilled enough to deal with the challenges of tig with out the HF working well.....

Actually I usually think the points on an old BMW airhead ...... but deal with contacts all the time for work, so I figure I should recognize them once I take a peek. Thanks for the heads up on where to look!

So here's the board from two angles and the other shot is the stuff on the top. I don't readily recognize anything as points that can be adjusted........

So that would mean turn the power on, make the settings as you would for TIG, and press the pedal? OR would I need to make an arc? If so I'll need an extra pair of hands and eyes..........

I would do a wookie states.Looks like that may be it in the last picture of the set you posted they are usaully on the chassis.Just have to look around closely follow back your circuit wiring from the torch electrode, can't see it being mounted on a board because of noise.Amazed their is very little info on millerwelds.com Contact this guy off millerwelds forum.I will not put all web info because it maynot appear, .millerwelds.com/resources/communities/mboard/member.php?6989-cruizer he is a tech.

Sorry couldn't be of more help, cannot find what I am looking for on the schematic download.
