What kind of Chop Saws?

Hmm, more food for thought. I'm kinda hoping to get something that will accept the DeWalt stand mount like the slide compound miter saw I just got. That was it can be off the ground and support longer pieces. All this wanting equipment isn't so good for city life...... I need a barn or old warehouse for all the stuff I'd like to have on hand.

Well I ended up winning a Milwaukee cut off saw at auction for just under $60............... so I guess I'll go with that. I'll report back once I get to use it a bit......

I had the HF model a bunch of years ago. Burned it up after about 1/2 hours use. Since I have never been in the presence of a chop saw I liked that cost less than $300, I use a horizontal band saw, portaband, or my plasma for everything. We have one in the shop at my work that is similar the Sic's beastly saw and it works great but it's three phase and probably as old as I am.

Would chain drive be ok for a homemade saw?

I know this is an old post - but my two cents worth - - I'd rather have a belt drive, simply because it provides some possibililty for slip if something binds up.

Not only that Art but I'd rather be hit by a disintegrating belt than a broken chain.
