Miller Elite helmet under my tree

    HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS !!!!!

I've noticedt that there have been no post on this thread....ever... So i'll start one.

i have been enjoying my LS160 P for several months now and doing it with a HF Auto darkening helmet. It has been "OK" it darkens quickly and has " darkness adjustment. I have a small head ( 6 7/8 ) and it is not happy trying to size down that much. also when I put the lid down it tends to hit my nose. it will also not accept a " Cheater lens" all that said .....it only cost just under $ 60.00.

WELL ALONG COMES SANTA and drops a Miller Elite series helmet under my tree........

What a treat ! i alswys wondered who the hell would pay between $ 200-$ 350.00 buckeroos for an auto darkening helmet when HF and the Web are full of $ 50 -$ 60 bargins that " DO THE SAME THING !

Do the same thing ???? I guess the answer is yes BUT How they do it, the way thet do it. the way it feels when you are wearing it. the size of the viewing glass window.... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY BETTER !

The reason I am posting this is because i know Longevity will be offering a helmet in the near future and I wish all of you would join me it convincing Simon to find a company that will build a helmet that encompasses all the comfort features of the BETTER helmets yet at a Price point that is affordable to those of us that are on a strict budget. I would guess that such a helmet could be created easily off shore and the quality would be every bit as good as any good helmet and the selling price could be in the $100- $125.00 RANGE..

I know Simon considers Customer satisfaction " JOB #1 " so I just want him to get the information on the importance of a great helmet at an affordable price from our members.

If you all think i've had too much egg Nog... say so. but I've put in my .02 cents on the matter.

i truely hope you all have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year... And may Peace come to our Land

I've been nothing but pleased with my $50 harbor freight auto-darkening helmet. (Although, I only stick weld)

I am curious if anyone uses one of these while tig welding? And if so, what are your thoughts?

    HF Blue Flames Helmet

My wife bought me the HF welding mask for Christmas, She got the one that is black with blue flames. I've been using it since then and it has worked fine for both ARC and TIG welding. I was aware that not all auto darkening helmets worked with TIG (too low a "bright" light), so I checked the specs before using it. It said that it was suitable for both TIG and ARC welding and has worked well for me.

Since I weld outdoors I did find that any bright flash will darken the lens such as when I pick up a piece if stainless filler rod and the sun glints off of it, the lens darkens but then comes back in a second or so.

As usual, waited for it to be on sale and had a 20% off coupon

    That's what I'm worried about.

    Herb,

I got that exact same one. It's tough to beat for ~$42 out the door

I have an Elite series Inferno. Its great for TIG. I paid big bucks because I wanted to make sure my eyes aren't screwed up from a crappy helmet.

A buddy of mine bought a POS helmet and it was acting up.

I had a HF helmet and bought a Longevity helmet. I prefer the Longevity, there is more internial room (does not fog up from breathing), a much studer head band, better regulation for darking. I did not want to take a chance with my eye site. I gave the HF helmet away.

    Awards Showcase

Gadget is correct the cheap ones are not rated at low amp tig. I frequently weld at 5 amps for long periods of time andi have the miller digital elite and i love it. It has never failed me yet in the two years i have had it. It also has 4 arc sensors so it darkens even inside a tank or when i am out of position. This mask is als the only mask that has the x-mode. This mode actually beats the arc. It senses the electromagnetic field that the arc creates before it is struck and it turns. THis is especially helpfull outside in the bright sun. I use this alot when i am welding at 5 amps just to make sure that it turns. But i would not recoment this for the average person due to its $400 price tag and i think mine was 450 when i got it. But for welding at 5 amps and below nothing can beat it.
