    Plasma Torch Discomfort

I have had my 40amp pilot arc plasma cutter for about 4 months now. I have an odd issue with it. not so much with teh unit itself, but I am finding the torch is very uncomfortable for long use or real tedious/exact cutting. The torch has a button on the top, not a trigger. This is a new model from what i was told. Did the older models have a normal torch with a trigger, or are they all with the button switch on top? Has anyone changed out the torch to work with one that has a trigger, say from a ESAB/Miller/Thermal unit? I don't think it would be difficult, since it is pretty much just an electrical circuit and air hose.

    Thanks!!!

I thought the s45 was the newest torch - it is the one with the trigger.

the S45 has a trigger/button on the top. The old units had a trigger held on with zip strips and could be rotated around the handle to where it best suites you. Of the two I prefer the S45.

I'm a little confused - I have this torch and it says s45 on it.

Shows how close I pay attention. I use my torch in the CNC (S45) and was thinking the trigger was on the top. Duhhhh

I'm not sure on the longevity units but if it has a cnc function can't you set it where you push the button and it stays on until it gets pressed again. This might help you out on long cuts.

Do you not have a sequencer on your torch to hold the circuit on while you use it, I am only saying this because I have a multifunction unit and it has the sequencer on the machine to hold the function your using on.Maybe you can adapt a peice of 0.030 spring steel to pull over the switch when in use for a long time and hold it down.

There is no sequencer on the torch that i know of. It just seems like a simple flat button.

the sequencer he is talking about is actually the "2t/ 4t" switch on the face of the machine. on 2t its a simple on n off button on the torch, on 4t, it acts like a "latch" torch stays lit until you hit the button again...

i dont think that the plasma machines have the sequencer switch on them, and as far as adapting a different torch over, it shouldnt be that difficult, i wouldnt think... i have an arcmate 205 and a 200pi multi machine.... so no real experience with a stand alone longevity plasma... let me do some research on this n see if maybe a different torch from longevity will better fit your needs or if there is an aftermarket torch that will easily adapt...
