Questions on a 40i?

this is the first pilot arc plasma i've owned.. my old plasma was the old contact type, to where you put the tip on clean metal, pushed down to activate a switch inside the torch then it would light off and then you continued with your cutting..

my question is with the 40i ,when you pull the trigger does it just ignite a short arc then go out...
when i pull my trigger i get a short ignition then it goes out if i'm just holding the torch up in the air..
if i put it down near metal (like 1/4" from the metal) to take a cut, i pull the trigger and it cuts fine..

is this the normal behavior of a pilot arc machine?

i must say this thing cuts alot better than my old 25amp blue point..

yes, that is normal operation for a pilot arc plasma.... glad youre likin the machine, i know i kinda dig mine....

yes i like the new 40i so far, i havent got into a bunch of cutting yet.

if the machine holds up as well as it looks, i'll be very happy.. excellent looking machine.

I don't have a 40 but I do have a 200PI and the plasma torch will stay lit in air as long as I hold the trigger. This messed me up on my CNC table. I forgot to connect the work electrode, It looked like it was cutting, but it was not!!

Brucer,

When the trigger is pressed, you should have a continuous arc on the ForceCut 40i. Check to make sure your PSI is at 45-55 and that your pilot wire is properly grounded. Lastly, replace you fuse just in case.

i had it at 70psi.. the manual i downloaded states 70-75psi..

Tomorrow I'll drop it down to 50psi and swap fuses and see what that does.. what size fuses are they?

You should have gotten a few extra fuses with it. I think I got 3. I also have mine set to 70psi per the manual. I haven't really cut anything with it so when I do I'll have to change my settings.

Sorry guys, we are in the process of updating the manuals. The fuses should be included. I do not recall of the top of my head what amp size they are, but you should have extras in with your machine. If not, let us know.
