Use air for plasma not argon. That's an unneeded expense.

im just curious as to how the machine and the material will react to using argon instead of compressed air or nitrogen.... i do know that nitrogen has a much cleaner cut and will use less amperage per depth of cut than compressed air. high definition plasma machines spec nitrogen for the gas

Got it Stan. The regulators probably won't allow enough air flow to do plasma with argon. You would have to get one that has adjustment for higher pressure.

Air for plasma, Argon for TIG

Thank you all for helping firegatejee get his machine going! The 160PI is a great machine that I personally have the privilege to own and operate as well in my free time!

The WeldAll 160PI is a great machine for plasma and TIG welding and don't forget it is a stick welder as well! This machine has an AC or DC setting for all 3 functions which means that you can not only stick and TIG weld in AC or DC mode, but you can also plasma cut in AC or DC mode as well!
This machines plasma cutter will not operate with Argon gas due to the fact that there is not enough PSI running out of the argon bottle to ignite the arc. This also has the potential to damage your torch due to a higher torch operating temperature compared to compressed air. Compressed air is used to not only produce enough pressure to ignite the constant arc but also to keep your torch and consumables at a proper operating temperature. If improper gas use is attempted, this may void your warranty and turn into a costly repair, so please don't experiment .

Here is a link to our instruction manuals for the new WeldAll 160PI:

This will explain the set up procedure for both argon and air into your machine. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me at our toll free # 877-566-4462 for more details on your new machine.

As you have found, this forum is a great place for more feedback and information on your new welding machine. Glad to see that you are getting some of your questions answered in our welding community!

Thanks again and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your new machine.
