I cant thank you enough. Unfortunately I dont think I will be able to complete the custom handles for the Jamboree but I will figure something out. Thanks again!

I purchased a everlast multiprocess unit with a 60 amp plasma on it and it did the same thing when I was bellow 30 amps. When I tried to drag cut sheetmetal it would peirce it fine but would just make a bunch of pierces not a nice clean cut. I could trigger the torch and after a few times of quickly triggering it it would go into protect mode. I never could figure out what was wrong and sent it back. I have a different unit now and it is 100% different. You may have a bad torch. Try a drag cut on some sheetmetal like 20 gauge or thinner with the amps turned down low and tell us what it does. Looks like maybe the high frequency points need adjusted? Anyone else got any ideas?
Hey Gadget, I hate to get off topic, but why do you disconnect the pilot arc wire when running CNC? I leave mine hooked up when running mine as CNC.

Oh heck, I have too much stuff to list!

Actually, my LP80 does not have pilot arc, I connect a pilot arc torch to it and use the pilot wire to ground. I use the LP80 almost exclusively on the CNC table.

Hi There,
What you want to do is turn your PSI down to 45-55 at the compressor. The plasma cutter should stop sputtering. If that does not work, we will go ahead and have to service it our location. Also, try different sets of tips as it is possible the tips are defective.
We will be in the office Monday morning at 9am PST time. You can give us a call for trouble shooting.
Thanks

I just picked up a piece of sheet metal and will try turning down the psi on the compressor and see what happens.
As I stated earlier, the machine is new, first use was yesterday and I tried three different sets of tips.
Ill post up results later.
Thanks for all the input, this place rocks!

OK, looks like setting the compressor to 45psi took care of the problem...Yay! When I read this in the manual - "Connect the air supply to your LONGEVITY Plasma Cutter and consult your owner's manual to ensure the correct PSI. The PSI is about 65-75" I went ahead and set it to 70-75 psi and apparently thats just way too much.
Sheet metal cuts like butter on the lowest settings, 1/8" cuts easily...I just need a steady hand or a cutting table...hmm...
We successfully cut out some flames and a #1 for my sons pinewood derby car, he is pumped!
Thanks again for the help.
