Recieved My 40i
I recived my ForceCut 40i yesterday..
I was apprehensive of ordering a Longevity machine.. I didnt really have the money in my budget for a Hypertherm or ThermalDynamics they were simply out of my price range.. I had an older snapon 25amp plasma and i was simply tired of the contact torch and it was time for it to find a new home.. i had bought the snap-on unit several yrs ago from a friend i paid a whopping $150 for it. i used it for several years and when i sold it i got $500 out of it which was great, so that went towards a new machine.
i did some searching on the internet and looked at several of the chinese imports on ebay such as Colossal Tech, Ramsond, Rstar, Simadre and a couple others.. A friend of mine has owned a Colossal Tech for 3ys and it has worked great for him, i have actually had used it a couple of times in the past.. he told me he give like $350 for it and it had a 90day warranty.. I had thought about one of the ColossalTechs but i didnt care much for the torch and particularly didnt care much for the looks of them..
Then I came across Everlast and Longevity brands on several forums and they got my attention because of the 5yr warranty. I felt you were paying more simply for the 5yr warranty which is no big deal to me, as long as the warranty is legit and backed...
I finally decided to go with a Longevity, basicly because i thought the Everlast green was just plain ugly.. the longevity also had the power switch on the front of the machine. i also didnt care for alot of the plastic on the front and back of the Everlast machines..
I decided to order the Longevity 40i plasma cutter and i had set my budget. I called Longevity for pricing and got a nice discount so i placed my order.. Initially i was worried because i had received the paypal request and i paid through paypal and i didnt get an order confirmation until several days later.. I had to call a couple times before we finally got that lined out. I got the order number and also a tracking number... it took about 5 days to get the package.. It came from California and i live in western Kentucky so shipping time was about right.
i had read a few horror stories of smashed in boxes and machines all dented up when they received them from the delivery service.. heres a pic of mine i grabbed it from the ups guy and sat it down and took a couple of pic's.. No damage at all to the box actually looked very good for a long trip from California..
i continued opening the box. It was neatly packaged..

Getting the plasma cutter out of the box and unwrapped i was actually impressed with the overall look and feel of the machine.. I think its actually a nice looking machine. Seems to be built good. The switches and knobs felt solid and of good quality...

Continuing:
the day after receiving the 40i.
i went and got my 50amp plug today, got it wired up... i ran into a problem with the water trap. the mounting holes on the rear of the plasma didnt line up with the holes in the bracket and i was missing one of the screws that is used to mount the water trap to the bracket.. no big deal, but i think others have had this problem before, so it might be something that needs to be addressed...
i made a quick little temporary bracket out of a piece of 1inch angle iron and temporarily mounted the water trap.. i'm going to put the water trap and quick connect on my welding cart instead of mounted on the rear of the machine.. I dont like the water trap mounted on the rear, looks like the fan could catch some water drops and blow them in the machine perhaps..
Tomorrow i'm going to modify my cart to hold the plasma and also mount the water trap on the cart and have the air hose quick connect on the front of the cart so i dont have to reach behind the machine to hook the air up..
to be continued.
