    250i help

    i have a new 250i and I am trying to cut some 1/4 plate, I had all kinds of fits, tons of slag and it took me forever to complete the cuts, I am in need of assistance. Can someone recommend what my amps and air pressure should be? I was ready to get a sledge hammer our earlier today...

    I would use about 40 amps and 55 -65PSI. I've had that problem myself before and am embarrassed to admit I forgot to connect the ground lead. It was cutting using only the pilot wire to complete the circuit.

    Not the ground this time, new plate and I even sanded a spot clean for the clamp. I had my air pressure up around 80, so I will cut it back some. I do have plenty of air that runs through two driers before getting to the machine.

    80PSI seems a bit much for quarter inch plate.

    also check to be sure that you have the leads hooked up on the right studs as well.... you cant run the plasma off the positive side of the machine

    Just a few questions. What type of metal are you cutting? If you fire the torch in mid-air what happens? When fireing the torch in the air, can you feel the torch move from the air pressure. Does your machine have a ARC Force knob? If so try setting it above 50% of the dial. ALL of the previous posts cover almost everything else.
    Let us know what happens.

    So are you saying the leads would be opposite of stick welding? Meaning the torch is hooked to the ground side? My pilot arc is working normally if that helps

    yes, for plasma, the torch will be hooked up on the negative side of the machine same with tig...
