    consumables

I am getting ready to order a plasma cutter. should I go ahead and order extra consumables with the machine or just wait. How often will these parts need to be replaced?

The use of consumables depends on the skill of the user and the amount of use. I am a new plasma cutter user. A lot of trial and error, and quite a few consumiables used. I have found that an occasional sanding with some 200 grit emery cloth saves tip replacement. I hold the emery cloth on a flat surface and gently rub the plasma tip accross it. This can be done again and again. Sence I started this process I have not replaced one tip. Granted the amount of use has been low due to the winter weather. Spring is here, so I will see if this realy helps.

If you buy extra consumables with the cutter you will save the shipping costs, but the consumable price is still the same. At least that is how it was for my purchase.

I am new to plasma cutting so I bought the extra consumables with my plasma cutter. I figured it was easier, would not have to "shop" all over where i live hunting for the right consumables.

Now after I "season" a bit, I may look around locally, but in the learning stage i did not want to run out of consumables.

    Cool Large vs Small

OK, so I go to the Longevity site and navigate to Consumables. For the plasma torch that comes with the 200P there appears to be a choice of either Large or Small tips. As I read the description the Large tip provides a "finer" cut. Is the orifice smaller or does the longer length of the tip create a different pattern in the plasma (more focused?) or perhaps both?

At first I assumed Larger meant that the setup would cut through thicker material, but that doesn't match the description. I'm still working on cutting thin stainless sheet with as narrow kerf as practical.

    Thanks,

    HerbD

    Hi,

The consumables are good to have around. You save on shipping and we also offer a discount on the consumables if you purchase with the unit.

Some parker units use the same consumables, but you should check with us before buying consumables for a parker machine.

    Best

Be very careful where you get the consumables...there are companies on Ebay that sell a gazillion consumables for about $50 and they are reclaimed copper. dirty, and not very good material. I am a firm believer, you get what you pay for. The one thing they don't tell you, the consumables are the short ones and if you are used to the normal "long" ones, it will mess you up...experience taught me that....lol

I played it safe and ordered a 30 piece of the large plasma tips with my LS-200PI multi process unit.
