can you weld with the gas tank in

I Know when MIG welding you should disconnect the battery......can you still weld with the gas tank in? I'm welding inside the vehicle nowhere near the tank. I was'nt sure if the current flow would have an effect. Just to note : I know not to weld a gas tank.

scary to think this post went unanswered... Maybe for liability reasons?
I wont say if you should or that it is safe, but all of us have, by now probably you too. The vapors is what makes gas so dangerous so if you smell any don't light up.
Stay away from the tank and fuel line, and have an extinguisher handy at all times. should be a boom free event. Good luck
1 bad decision can wipe away years of good intentions~ Be careful!!

I have done this numerous times. As said before, stay away from the tank. I have welded in body panels, and even a roll cage, no problem.

there should be no problem at all. I have done it many times with mig tig arc ect. Just think about the battery in the car it has in some cases 700 cca. So there should be no problem.

Speaking of batteries, don't weld anywhere near them. They give off hydrogen gas when charging and will explode. An acid explosion is no fun at all.

Same with a motorcycle. With todays bikes they have fuel injection so you have to disconnect the battery before doing any welding or you will kill the electronics.

Unless your welding right next to the lines you really don't have to even worry about them.
