    Transporting argon cylinder

Are there any special precautions ot observe when transporting argon cylinders?

Do they need to be upright?

When transporting keep the cylinder away from the passenger compartment and secured so it can't bang into stuff and so stuff can't bang into it.

I can't see any reason why they would need to be upright. There isn't anything inside besides the compressed argon. The only danger I can think of for transporting a Argon tank is having it leak. The cylinders can become missiles if the valve gets sheered off. That isn't easy to do but it would be no fun to have happen. A slow leak could be dangerous if you have the tank inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Argon isn't particular bad for you but if there is enough it could displace the air in your vehicle.

I carry my cylinder in the trunk of my car. If I had a truck it would probably be better but I don't.

matteh99 has nailed this one. I transport my tank in the back of my Yukon, and have at least two windows open.

I will secure the tank for sure. I don't want that much weight banging around behind me!

When the cap is on the cylinder it would be very very hard to break the values. Thats what its for.

Just dont let it move around , and keep it out of very hot places. Its pretty safe.

I have a 60 CF tank for argon. I don't think the smaller tanks are setup for caps.

The smaller tanks don't take caps, as far as I understand it the caps start with the 80cf tanks. I had this same question a little while back and I asked two local gas suppliers and both told me that Argon cylinders can be laid on their sides (in case anyone’s wondering who I asked it was AirGas and Aeris).

I was watching mythbusters a long time ago and they tested one of those tanks in a conex box they shot it with a rifle then they hit the top off the tank and yeah ur right it doesn't blow up but it becomes a missile

I just got a new 60 cf tank and it came with a cap. I asked the guy about it and he said that a few come with caps but most don't.
