    welding shirts

For those of you that don't want the expense or weight of a jacket, go to your local uniform service, many have outlet stores where you can buy used cotton welding shirts. The one near me sells them for $5. For $1-2 more they will probably put your name on it. As you probably already know, don't get the polyester.

I'll have to look this up. I'm not familiar with welding shirts. Or do you mean just cheap throw away shirts?

The welding shirts used by/ sold at uniform places are 100% cotton so they don't melt to you. Get them in dark blue and they don't look as dirty as quickly.

Welding shirts are 100% cotton with a very tight weave. Every welding supplier carries them. Not sure if this is what SAS is refering to specifically, but just make sure you wear 100% COTTON while welding.

Specifically, these shirts are what I and every welder in a fabrication shop that I know of wears every day at work. Dickies are like $20 and most of the ones I have seen are all or partially polyester. For $5 or so you can wear exactly the shirts designed for welders. I think $5 falls under the cheap category as well. Not likely to have to throw them away very quickly either. Usually once a year @ 8 hour days x26 weeks (we get 2 weeks worth of shirts) that's 208 hours of sparks falling on your forearms. I'd call that a downright bargain.
