    Ventilation

Working in a small shop, I weld at least 1 hour for every piece I fabricate
so in a given day of 4 hours in the shop, I will weld 1-2 hours in a shop that is 24'x16'. I have a small ventilation fan that pulls air out of the shop. with the inclement weather being the way it is, I only turn it on when I am welding would this suffice as proper ventilation?

    Feedback please

Boy I thinks that is hard to really answer. Size of fan, location of fan, type of welding, how tight you shop is(fresh air intake), ect.

If it keeps up with removing smoke then I would say it is ok but you may want to run for a short period after you finish welding. I think the best ventilation system I seen was a vent hose that you could lay nest to the piece being welded as you can get away with much less air exchange especially in cold weather.

Here is what I am talking about: Smoke Eater

yeah thats the same style of fan

I have the same set up except it is about 3' from the work bench and is mounted higher and the fans squirrel cage is about 4-5'. I do notice the smoke gets sucked into the fan quite quickly and the air flow is left to right with the fan being on the right seems to work quite well.
