The little HF unit sounds like a great idea. I would keep it covered when not in use to prevent contamination (dust and dirt on the wheel)

I bought a tiny 3"(?) bench grinder/buffer combo from Harbor Freight for about $20 and the grinding wheel works great. It is a fine stone, so it puts a nice point on the electrode. The grinder runs so smooth, you don't need to bolt it down or anything and it takes up very little room. I keep the collet on the electrode when grinding and spin the electrode while holding the collet. I think it works pretty well and the electrode spins freely. Also, make sure you slide the electrode a little from side to side when grinding, so you don't wear a rut in the stone.
    Equipment Owned:
    Longevity Weld All 200PI
    Lincoln Electric Weld-All 175HD
Harbor Freight Easy MIG 100 (yes it is a cheapie but works OK)
Harbor Freight Compact Bender with scroll attachment
    Harbor Freight Tubing Roller
    Harbor Freight 4X6 Bandsaw
    Campbell Hausfield 60 gallon compressor
Oh heck, I have too much stuff to list!
