    TIG Pedal Question

Okay, I'll start this thread here....

I am on TIG pedal number 2 on a < 6 month old welder. The first one was suspected as bad and replaced due to the fact the welder was not establishing an arc but working fine with the trigger on the gun. Well, I am having the same problem again..... (Honestly, I might average an hour of TIG a week)

Before I "shake up" the Longevity crew, I wanted to ask you guys about your pedals. The two I have had are sort of a cheap seeming model, no marking on the adjustment knob, and a simple timing belt running the other pot. Not near as nice as what's pictured on the website. What do you guys have?

    Thanks for any input,
    John

Mine is probably like yours. You might want to check the HF contacts inside the welder. They should be around .035 gap. I noticed that if the gap is too wide it will work with the trigger fairly well but not so well with the pedal.

The HF contacts can get out of adjustment from shipping occasionally.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to. All you have is an on off switch and a variable resistance from the pedal.

Did a little research on the pots in the pedals Lincoln uses a 10k pot while Miller uses a 1k pot both Lincoln and Miller use a Capacitator 4700VF,3K and a micro switch
Don't know what the longevity pedal uses

Great info on using "other" pedals. I saw one on eBay that looked like it could be nicer.

HIGH QUALITY TIG/MMA WELDING AMP CONTROL FOOT PEDAL - eBay (item 220718041055 end time Mar-02-11 16:25:44 PST)

Are you guys running one of these "el cheapo" ones with no marking of the knob, or does it resemble the one on the Longevity site?
