Never mind. Found a bunch of posts on it. Looks like I'm going to research converting to gas lenses.

Not yet... but I'd sure like to!
My roster has a lot of tubing work with acute angles... A clear cup would probably help !
Got a start on a gas lens, but need more components to get it functional.

LoL I'm going for the 'stickout' ! LoL

SIC, thanks, I have been TIG welding for years, but I'm self taught, and had never heard of walking the cup. I looked it up, and have to try it. I was just thinking that I wouldn't learn anything new this week or maybe this month.

    Thanks again for the info.

Is the gas lens worth it for just a hobbyist?I have considered it but don't know if I would really get any benefit out of one.I guess I could just go for it and see if I like them or not.

I also never used one, but saw on line and thought that I should get one someday. My local Airgas supply does not keep them is stock, so I never had the chance. I can't think of a time when I actually needed one so maybe I'll pass on this. I also drop the torch from time to time and glass might get expensive.

Heck if I know. Me buying them is just like a crappy golfer buying expensive clubs. they don't make him a better golfer but they look great. I sold a rifle to a fellow once who was having trouble with it. I actually went to his home range and he took a couple of shots from the prone and missed the target at 200 yards. The target was a piece of hanging steel and the rifle was a Romanian AK47 with iron sights. Not what I usually sell and I didn't customize it but I thought I'd help a brother out. So anyhow, he missed. I took the rifle and took a couple of shots standing and hit the steel. I just handed it back and said "It seems OK to me"...

Me using a gas lens is a lot like that. Who know if it improves my welding because I suck so bad to begin with. I'm getting better though, slowly but surely. I'm starting to understand what some guys are saying when they talk about developing your own technique. I'm figuring out what works and what doesn't.
