Low budget tig filter

For about $10 I got this #10 shade gold filter to put in my ancient jackson. Man is it cool running low amp tig with this thing. I might try a #9 so I can see the torch before starting the weld next.

That helmet belongs on Antiques Roadshow!
That is a good example of how things were made back in the day -to last nearly forever.
I love my Jackson for mig on big stuff but I've grown partial to my Longevity auto for most jobs.
I'll have to try the gold to see how I like it.

I just got a 9 shade and like it better. With enough light I can see the torch before the arc and I can see a bigger area around the weld. 30-50 amps pulse tig.

i still use the jackson passive helmet with the gold lens. I have a miller digital elite and not a big fan of auto darkening. The gold i believe is the best you get very good visibility out of it. The only problem is you have to be careful with the lens if you get a scratch on it discard it because the gold is what blocks the uv light. This lens is the same as what astronauts use!!
