    aluminum problems

    so i have read lots and i keep trying but i'm not having much luck, i did this outside corner weld and used the same cleaning techniques for the inside corner weld but I just cant get a bead going and even if i get a puddle if i bring the filler near the arc blows the filler out of the weld area, or the filler will melt off the rod before it's near the puddle,

    here is the outside corner



    here is the terrible inside corner of the same material



    this is using a 1.5% lanthanated and then trying 0.8% zirconiated tungsten doesn't seem much different.

    suggestions please

    Try raising the electrode a bit when you get ready to dip the rod. I wonder if your rod is too small for the amperage you're using too. Don't feel bad though, I get the same mess more often than I'd like to admit on an inside corner.

    I'm no pro but it almost looks like bad gas coverage.Should be set to about 15-20.Your balance should be set towards more penetration,i run mine at 7 or higher.It could be the material was not clean enough,or your piece may not have a good ground.Hard to tell without more info on your settings and materials used.As far as the filler melting before you get to the puddle,could be to much torch angle,tungsten to high up exposing filler to the heat before you get close to the puddle.Keep your tungsten close to your work and bring your filler in low to the puddle.There are guys on here that will probably give you better advise than i can,but maybe this will help some.

    I think that we need more information. Machine type? Machine settings? Gas used? Gas flow rate?

    not hot enough! your base plate isnt melted yet and youre tryin to throw filler at it... your torch angle is wrong too, cause your gas coverage is crap and thats why yer melting your filler before ya ever get it "there"

    run hotter, wait a little longer and run that cup and tungsten straight into the weld.... DO NOT lead the puddle when welding aluminum tig

    You might have found the reason I've been having trouble with AL Stan, I've been trying to lead the puddle.

    the bead on the bottom (if you want to call it that) looks like there was no gas flow at all.
