Don't know if this has been mentioned before...

I know I'm the new guy here but I was curious as to why there are no "thanks" buttons on the posts. I'm a member of several forums and this one nor weldingweb has that option available. You guys may have a reason for not having that and the "groan" button live in this forum, but if you don't have a reason would you please consider making it available?

Sometimes when someone says something you feel is notable it is a lot more efficient to give them "thanks" instead of making another post to tell them you agree. I know that I have read many posts on here that have helped me in building my knowledge base in the short time I have been here and I don't always feel that I have a valid contribution to make to the topic because I may not be knowledgeable in that area but would like to let the poster know I appreciate THEIR input without adding a "off topic" post to let them know.

Unless this is a different version of Vbulletien than the other forums I'm a member of then there is one available it just has to be made available. There is also a "reputation" feature where you can add to a persons reputation if they say something that is worth something to you. You can add points to their reputation AND it will allow you to make a comment on the post without having to add to the thread's post count. Your comment will show up in a little box and will have your screen name and comment in a smaller font than the actual post so that folks will know it is a comment and not part of the original post.

Some other forums use that rep feature as a way for the membership to get rid of trolls and spammers since there may not always be a moderator available to take action. The members would use negative reputation and once the negative reputation reaches I think -26 the person's priviledges are locked out and they are "temporarily banned" until a moderator or administrator looks at their posts and determines if they were in fact a troll or spammer. 99.9% of the time the membership nails it right on the head. Hardly ever see an individual that comes out spamming or trolling get their ban lifted.

    I like the idea.

It took me a bit to figure out where the new feature was. You have to click on the button that looks like this.

    Attachment 1083
Longevity LC-520D (ordered, Delivered, works great)
Longevity Pro-Black Welding helmet, works great

I do not think the Reputation feature is what "bluesman" was asking for. Nice feature but only gives a general impression derived from other users. It does not show the Thanks for a specific response. I kind of compare the Reputation feature to the Post # counter.

The Thanks Button "bluesman" is suggesting, creates at the bottom of that specific post a list of user names that said thanks. Similar to the signature lines and below them. Also, it shows how many times thanked inline with the users data.

I will try and post an example image.
