    Side Exhaust - '47 Chev.

Quite some time ago I promised Willis77 some pictures of the side exhaust treatment I am fabricating for my old '47 Chev. coupe. I have been busy with other responsibilities, but I believe Will is going to be home to do some fabrication, and wanted to show him something in case it is helpful while he is home.
The right side of the car is almost done, and I hope to be getting back to the left side shortly. The pictures show the under-side of the left side of the car, as well as the un-finished left rocker, and the finished right rocker - minus bondo. The exhaust plumbing is pretty much complete, with the exception of the left tail-pipe exit, which has to be pierced through the rocker panel of the car's bodywork. Also, as is evident, the rust treatment still has to be done, and the rocker, and fender extension have to be rolled and shaped.
I used the Flex-Pipe to take up most of the motion from the engine rocking back and forth, so that by the time you get back to the side exit tail pipe, the pipe would be fairly stable, so it won't rattle on the bodywork, although I know I'll still need a recessed cushion between the chrome tail-pipe megaphone and the body-work. As you can see, the flange, and exhaust do-nut aren't bolted up yet at the junction between the back of the flex, and the exhaust pipe.
As I find time, I'll post some pictures of piercing and solidifying the body-side where the tip comes through, and rolling the rocker and fender extension.
I'm still having trouble getting my pictures to display in the correct order, but I think you'll figure it out.
    Hope this helps Will.

Thanks Art, that's great to see and gives me some ideas. I'm looking forward to seeing how you pierce and roll the rocker. Looks good and thanks again. I'm going to store some of these pics. Great resource!

looks good like the way it exits the rocker very clean lookin

Only issue i see is the collector coming to the y pipe is aimed up at the other header would think you would get back pressure on that one side of the motor and vice versa like the 2 exhaust manifolds would be fighting each other to breathe

    Wookie:
You're right - it won't be the best breathing engine in the world, and if I were using headers, I would certainly do it differently, but since this thing is supposed to be a daily driver - summer and winter, I am sticking to the stock cast-iron exhaust manifolds for now - which are wheasy themselves at best. - -at least that's the plan for now. - - Thanks for the constuctive insight though - I don't pretend to be an expert. The photo is a little deceiving though - it's hard to see in the photo, but the left side manifold as viewed in the photo does loop around the oil filter and out the other side down the rocker and out.

    Will:
Yeah - I did put in a pit when I had the shop built. It does make things easier. At the time I considered a hoist, but felt that the hoist legs and pads would always be in the way when doing this kind of work. - They both have their pros and cons.
